February 4, 2008 - National Pro Fastpitch (NPF)
Philadelphia Force News Release
The Philadelphia Force have announced they will be holding the 1st Annual Philadelphia Force Coaches Clinic on Sunday, March 16, 2008. The clinic will be held from 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m., and will take place at Gwynedd-Mercy Academy High School in Gwynedd Valley, PA.
Three of the country's best fastpitch instructors will be on hand to demonstrate to coaches and students the finer points of pitching, hitting, and defense. The clinic will be a combination of full group lessons and choice of breakout sessions.
Current National Pro Fastpitch commissioner, Cheri Kempf, is one of the experienced staff assembled by the Force. Kempf is owner and pitching instructor at Worth Club K. She has taught and trained thousands of athletes at Club K since 1991. Best known for her pitching expertise, she has consulted with the Amateur Softball Association and the United States Olympic Committee to develop universal standards by which to teach fastpitch pitching. Kempf has been inducted into the NAIA Collegiate Hall of Fame, the Missouri State ASA Hall of Fame and the Missouri Western State College Hall of Fame. A member of the Women's Sports Foundation and the National Fastpitch Coaches Association, Kempf also provided television analyst for many college and professional softball broadcasts. She has been seen and heard on ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU, Fox Sports, the YES Network, Cox Sports Television, and Comcast Cable Network.
The second member of the staff is Marc Shoenfelt, who is the President and founder of B2B Baseball, an instructional baseball business based out of Lancaster, PA. Marc is considered on of the foremost international speakers in youth baseball and softball. He has written a book/DVD entitled, "Baseball's Forgotten Basics". He is the official educator for "Baseball Youth" magazine, contributing instructional articles in each issue. He also writes for "7th Inning Stretch", Canada's national newsletter. He has been interviewed on FOX Sports Radio and has appeared on Comcast SportsNet with Michael Barkann. Shoenfelt will lead the hitting and outfield fielding demonstrations during the clinic.
The third clinician is Clare Burnum, a 2003 graduate of Oregon State University. The Philadelphia Force third baseman is entering her fifth season in the NPF and second with the Force. During her senior year at OSU, Clare led the Beavers in home runs, doubles, and runs scored. She spent the first three years of her professional career with the Texas Thunder before moving to the Force before last season. She is a lifetime .277 hitter and her 81 walks places her fourth on the all-time NPF list. Clare's 459 career at-bats and seven triples are also in the top 10 in NPF history. At the plate, Clare is a discipline hitter, whose .453 on-base percentage is amongst NPF leaders, and in the field, she handles the hot corner with expertise. Clare is currently the head coach at Canby High School in Oregon and will teach defense and mental training techniques during the clinic.
The cost of the clinic is $65 for coaches, and $35 students if pre-registered by February 28. On-site reservations will be available for $80 for coaches and $50 for students. For an additional $10, lunch, consisting of a sandwich, snack, and drink, can be added for those who pre-register only.
