Force to face Akron in 6 Game Series
July 6, 2009 - National Pro Fastpitch (NPF)
Philadelphia Force News Release
The Series This week's six game series against the Akron Racers (8-7) will be one of the most important series for the Force (3-11). Still in the hunt for the postseason, the Force will host the Racers at ECTB Stadium starting on Tuesday. In their first encounter, the two teams battled it out in every single game.
What Just Happened Last week proved to be a great test for the Force as they played two exhibition games against the Stratford Brakettes at ECTB Stadium. In dominating fashion the Force picked up back-to-back wins shutting out their Connecticut opponents in both contests (2-0, 8-0).
Team Leaders Amongst the Force's top offensive leaders is DeAnn Justice, who has lead her team since the start of the 2009 campaign. To date the slugger has a .289 average which includes 11 hits, three runs scored, a team high nine RBI's, three doubles, and two home runs.
Also helping out the plate this season is Emily Friedman. Friedman has been the Force's go to player on countless occasions this season. With a .275 average she has totaled 11 hits, four runs, and five RBI's, and also has one double to her name as well.
In the circle a slew of Force pitchers have guided the team's defense this season. Jessica Sallinger has seen the most time this season having thrown over 25 innings so far. With a record of 1-2, Sallinger has fanned a total 16 batters, which leads the team. Her ERA of 3.35 is amongst the leagues best and continues to drop every time she steps into the game.
A Look Ahead The Force will pack their bags after this very long series, and will hit the road to take on the Rockford Thunder. The five game series is scheduled to begin on July 15th and will end on the 19th.
