Force Take Game One from Thunder

Philadelphia Force News Release

ALLENTOWN, Pa. - With two runners on and two outs on the scoreboard, the Force's Trena Peel stepped up to the plate. After a scoreless 5 1/2 innings, the left fielder drove a line drive into left field, which allowed Jami Lobpries to score breaking the 0-0 draw.

Peel's RBI single would prove to be just enough as the Force picked up a 1-0 win over the Rockford Thunder Tuesday evening at ECTB Stadium in front of 450 fans.

The huge victory improved the Force's overall record to 8-22, as they continue to battle for a place in this year's NPF Championship Series in Akron, Ohio. Tuesday's loss dropped the visiting Thunder's record to 12-14, as they hold onto third place in the league standings.

On the night Peel went 1-for-2 while Lobpries led the game with two of the team's five hits. Proving to be the main reason for the scoreless battle was the pitching duel between the Force's Megan Gibson and the Thunder's Allison Kime.

The two starting pitchers each threw a complete game, and really put on a show for all the fans in the stands. Gibson allowed just two hits on the day, while only walking two other batters. For Kime, she held the Force to just five hits, and fanned two batters in six innings of work.

Philly could have broken the game open in the sixth after an intentional walk to DeAnn Justice loaded the bases. Unfortunately the Force was unable to capitalize on the huge opportunity.

The two teams return to action tomorrow evening in game two of the five game series. Start time is scheduled for 7:35 p.m. EST. As always tomorrow's contest can be viewed on-line free of charge by going to http://www.philadelphiaforce.com/live.
