Philadelphia Force News Release
ALLENTOWN, Pa. - In preparation for their five game series, the Philadelphia Force picked up 5-4 exhibition win over the Akron Racers Tuesday evening at ECTB Stadium in front of 215 fans.
Leading the Force to their third straight exhibition victory was Audrey LaFountain who went 2-for-3 with two RBI's and one run scored. Jami Lobpries who started the game at second base recorded one hit in her two at-bats, and scored one of the team's five runs. In total the Force combined for nine hits in their 26 at-bats.
Getting the start Tuesday evening in the circle was Stacy Birk, who threw 3 1/3 innings. Jessica Sallinger came in from the bullpen and threw 2 2/3 innings and earned the victory. Closing out the seventh was Samantha Yodowitz, who despite getting into a jam picked up the save. Helping Yodowitz out of the seventh was LaFountain who turned a double-play with one out on the scoreboard to secure the 5-4 decision.
For the visiting Racers, Sam Banister went 2-for-3 on the night with a pair of RBI's. Throwing all seven innings was Brittany Weil. Of the five Force runs scored only one was earned, as two crucial errors gave the Force the window they needed to take the lead in the second. She also managed four strikeouts on Tuesday, and allowed only one walk.
It was the lone Force error in the top of the first that gave Akron their first run of the afternoon. However Philly did not let that one run affect them as they battled right back in the second scoring a total of four runs.
Akron then scored back-to-back runs in the top of the third to make it 4-3 in favor of the Force. The Racers actually tied the game at 4-4 in the fourth, but the Force managed to regain control of the scoreboard in the fifth on an RBI single by Megan Gibson.
Danielle Kinley who scored on Gibson's single initially got on a base after picking up her first triple of the season with two outs on the scoreboard.
The Force will kick-off their five game series against the Racers tomorrow evening at 7:35 p.m. EST at ECTB Stadium. As always fans can tune in and watch the game live on the internet by going to www.philadelphiaforce.com/live.
