Wichita Force News Release
WICHITA, Kan. - The Wichita Force (4-1) is set to take on the Texas Revolution (3-2) on Saturday, April 11; kick-off in the Allen Events Center is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. Riding a four game win streak, the Force look to continue their winning ways in Allen after defeating the Omaha Beef over the weekend, 59-42. The Revolution defeated the Amarillo Venom 57-21 to earn their second victory at home.
Wichita's win over Omaha on Saturday showcased a balanced offensive attack with an electric special teams performance. Force wide receiver Clarence Anderson and running back Tywon Hubbard were the stars of the game, with Anderson providing 226 all-purpose yards and two touchdowns, while Hubbard amassed 52 rushing yards and five total touchdowns - three rushing and two receiving. Quarterback Kyle Jech completed 14 of 20 passes for 111 yards, three touchdowns and one interception. Defensive linemen Latavious Davis and Matt Moss led the Force defense, combining for 4.5 tackles for loss and two sacks.
The two teams appeared deadlocked at 21 apiece going into halftime, but the Beef's attempted field goal with one second left in the second quarter fell short and Anderson returned the kick 58 yards for a touchdown and a 27-21 Force halftime lead. After trading scores in the third quarter, Wichita's lead was shortened to five, 47-42 going into the final period. The Force closed the game by shutting out the Beef to solidify a 59-42 win.
In the Revolution's game against the Venom, Texas found themselves down 17-10 with 1:08 to play in the first half. From that point through the midway point of the third quarter, the Revolution rolled off 26 unanswered points to take a commanding 36-17 lead over the Venom. After swapping scores the rest of the way, Texas defeated Amarillo 51-27. Revolution quarterback Robert Kent Jr. completed 12 of his 26 pass attempts for 195 yards and five touchdowns and wide receiver Brett Reece Jr. hauled in six passes for 102 yards and three touchdowns.
The Force has continued to bolster their roster ahead of their game against the Revolution with the addition of wide receiver Jarrel Kelley. A former member of the Wichita Wild, Kelley joins the Force after starting this season with the Philadelphia Soul of the Arena Football League. Kelley's professional career began with the Wild in 2013. He featured in six games during his rookie season, ranking third on the team with 193 receiving yards on 12 receptions with six touchdowns. In his second season in Wichita, Kelley emerged as a primary target for the Wild. Playing in all 14 games, he led the team in receptions and receiving yards, bringing in 61 passes for 675 yards and 16 touchdowns.
In 2012, Kelley played for the Orlando Rage of the Florida Football Alliance (FFA), an outdoor semi-professional league in Florida. In his lone season with the Rage, Kelley recorded 31 receptions for 649 yards and eight touchdowns. His stellar season with Orlando earned him honors as a Minor League Football All-Americans Association (MLFAA) second team All-American.
Revolution Player to Watch: QB Robert Kent Jr.
Kent leads the CIF in touchdown to interception ratio with a total of 17 touchdowns and only one interception. He also ranks second in the league with pass efficiency rating of 110.3 and fifth with 184.2 passing yards per game. Kent's ability to take care of the football increases the Revolution's efficiency on offense, putting pressure on the Force defense to get some stops.
Force Player to Watch: RB Tywon Hubbard
The Texas Revolution rank first in the CIF in rushing defense, allowing just 46 rushing yards per game However, the Revs stand middle of the pack in rushing touchdowns allowed, which is dangerous with a RB like Hubbard who compiled 52 rushing yards and three rushing touchdowns against the Beef while added two receiving touchdowns. All five of Hubbard's touchdowns came within ten yards of the endzone. Although the Revolution's defense has been stingy against the run, the opportunity exists for the Force to capitalize on the goal line with Hubbard at running back.
The Force will return to INTRUST Bank Arena on Friday, May 8 to take on the Dodge City Law for Faith and Family Night. Single game tickets are available, starting at $10 in the Fan Zone section and can be purchased at the INTRUST Bank Arena box office, over the phone or by calling (855) 755-SEAT, at participating Dillons locations, or online at www.selectaseat.com .
