Wichita Force News Release
WICHITA, Kan. - The Wichita Force (10-2) will host the Bloomington Edge (8-5) on Saturday for the Champions Indoor Football league Northern Division semi-final round of post-season play.
The two teams met twice in the regular season where both contests resulted in nail-biting, close wins for the Force. In the pair's first matchup, the teams were neck-and-neck throughout the entire first half before the Force scored on a seven yard pass by WR Clarence Anderson from QB Stephen Panasuk and later a 30-yard pass to WR Ronald Davis, to take a 13 point lead over the Edge.
Back-to-back unanswered scores by the Edge put the team right back into the game and gained a one-point lead. Another touchdown pass from Panasuk to WR Brett Soft followed by a 38-yard field goal by K Connor Frazell sealed the team's win despite a late one-yard run by Edge RB Darrlynn Dunn.
The pair's second matchup showed a similar stat line as both teams struggled to overcome their opponent's defense resulting in a low 32-27 win for the Force.
Panasuk threw for 21-34 over the Edge's defense including three passing touchdowns while Edge's QB Caleb Holbrook completed 18-out-of-26 passes with two passing touchdowns. Holbrook also recorded one rushing touchdown as well as Dunn, respectively.
K Frazell completed two field goal attempts, including one for 24 yards and another for 31 yards, to give the Force the three point victory.
If the Force defeats the Edge and the Texas Revolution outscores the Amarillo Venom, the Force will travel to Allen, Texas for the CIF Champions Bowl scheduled for Monday, June 27. If the Force defeat the Edge and the Revolution drop the contest against the Venom, the Revolution will return to INTRUST Bank Arena for the head-to-head matchup on Monday, June 27.
Force Player to Watch: DB Evan Ray
DB Evan Ray leads the Force in total number of interceptions in the season with five including one resulting in a pick-six. With the Edge averaging 160.5 passing yards per game, Ray will be on air patrol to stop the team's offensive strategy.
Edge Player to Watch: QB Caleb Holbrook
Playing in 13 games for the Edge, Holbrook ranks No. 4 in total offense in the league with an average of 187 yards per game. He currently has 2,129 passing yards with 302 rushing on the year.
With a high passing yard average, Holbrook will be the key contributor to the Edge's offense in order to advance to the championship round.
