Wichita Force News Release
WICHITA, Kan. - The Wichita Force announced today that the team has hired Rod Miller as defensive coordinator for the 2016 season.
"I'm very excited to have the opportunity to work with Coach Martinez and the Wichita Force organization," Miller said. "An organization with a successful and strong history not just on the field but, off the field as well."
Miller, a veteran coach to indoor football, has spent time with the Trenton Steel (SIFL) Cleveland Gladiators (AFL), Grand Rapids Rampage (AFL), Kansas City Brigade (AFL), Philadelphia Soul (AFL) and Wichita Falls Nighthawks (IFL) in professional coaching career.
During his time with the Soul, Miller was an assistant coach managing the secondary and special teams. At the conclusion of the 2014 season, the Soul finished No. 1 in interception returns for touchdowns, No. 1 in kick-off returns for touchdowns, No. 2 in rushing defense, No. 2 in fumble returns for touchdown, No. 3 in opponent third down conversions, and No. 4 in scoring defense.
"When I was in the AFL, I had the opportunity to coach Kendrick Harper for a while and thought he was one heck of a player," Miller commented. "We also really liked Matt Moss as well. Having these types of players on the front end and back end of a defense is what all coaches want to have along with all the other quality players that I have heard about on this team. February can't come soon enough."
DB Kendrick Harper spent some time with the Soul during Miller's 2014 season and said he feels that he will bring a challenge to the Force's defense.
"Coach Miller will be a great asset to our team," Harper said. "He brings a lot of coaching experience to the secondary. One thing I like about him is he doesn't care who you are, if you want to be a starter, you have to come in and compete. Nothing is given in his eyes. Let us all welcome Coach with open arms."
In 2015, Miller served as the assistant general manager and offensive coordinator to the Nighthawks of the Indoor Football League (IFL). In his lone season, one player was signed to the NFL, one player signed with CFL, and five players advanced to the AFL.
"I'm excited to bring in a coach with his knowledge and experience in indoor football," head coach Paco Martinez said. "Coach Miller has done it all. He's been with successful teams and he knows what it takes to get a team there. When I spoke with him, he used two works that made me know that he was right for our family-accountability and commitment. Coach Miller opens doors to a whole new set of players that we will now have access to."
Now through December 31, season tickets can be purchased at the 2015 pricing by calling 316-425-3009. For more information on the Force, visit www.wichitaforce.com, like the team on Facebook or follow them on Twitter (@wichitaforce).
