Force game suspended in fifth

Allentown, Pennsylvania - After dropping three of four games on the road in New England, the Philadelphia Force of National Pro Fastpitch returned home on Wednesday, July 12th to face the Riptide in a four game series at ECTB Stadium at Bicentennial Park. Rain and thunderstorms plagued the home team again, as the game was suspended with no score in the top of the fifth inning with two outs and one runner on. What was played of the game was a pitcher's duel, as Force starter Jodie Cox gave up three hits and Riptide starter Jocelyn Forest gave up two hits.

Cox successfully worked out of a jam in both the third and fourth innings.

In the top of the third inning, Riptide shortstop Destiny Frankenstein hit a lead off triple to right field. Cox then induced a ground out to the third baseman before Lindy Winkler singled to shortstop, putting runners on first and third with one out. Cox then struck out designated hitter, Tarrah Beyster, and got clean up hitter Lyndsey Angus to fly out to left field to end the Riptide threat.

New England put pressure on the Force in the top of the fourth inning when Cox walked the first two Riptide batters. Jen Scavone sacrificed the Riptide runners into scoring position, bringing up Lisa Iancin. Iancin blasted a 3-1 pitch back to Cox, who made a great defensive catch, nearly doubling up the Riptide. Cox then struck out Frankenstein to keep the Riptide scoreless.

Left fielder Lindsey Cameron and first baseman Jenna Hall had the two lone hits for the Force.

The suspended game will be picked up in the fifth inning tomorrow beginning at 6:00 pm, followed by the regularly scheduled Force game at 7:05 pm.

Tickets for the suspended July 12th game will be good for any regular season 2006 Force game. Please bring your ticket stubs to the box office to exchange your tickets.
