Force Down Thunder 10-5, Even Series at 2-2

ROSCOE, Ill. - Led by a slew of players including Megan Gibson, DeAnn Justice, and Jessica Sallinger, the Philadelphia Force defeated the host Rockford Thunder by the final score of 10-5 Saturday evening at Thunder Park.

The victory improved the Force's record to 5-18 on the season, and brings them one step closer from fourth place in the NPF. Saturday's loss dropped the Thunder's overall record to 11-13

The Force jumped out to a first inning lead for the third consecutive game, this time by scoring three first inning runs against starter Allison Kime. With two outs in the inning Gibson hit a triple down the right field and she was promptly driven in by Justice. A walk to Danielle Kinley and a hit batter to Emily Friedman loaded the bases for Trena Peel, who delivered a two-run double to left center to make the score 3-0.

Philadelphia pushed three more runs across the plate in the second inning as they sent nine batters to the plate. In the inning Kime was chased from the game after allowing five hits and five earned runs.

The Force continued its offensive onslaught by scoring single runs in the fourth, sixth and two in the seventh innings.

Gibson and Justice combined to go 6-for-9 in the game with four runs scored and five RBIs respectively.

The Thunder managed to score two runs in the fourth and seventh innings, and a single run in the sixth to account for all of their scoring on the night. Amanda Williams continued to swing the bat for her team as she finished 3-for-5 with a double and three runs batted in.

Jessica Sallinger (2-4) picked up the complete game win, while Kime dropped to 3-6 with the loss. Cassidy Scoggins allowed just two earned runs over the final 5 2/3 innings for the Thunder. On the night Sallinger allowed five runs (4 earned) on seven hits, struckout two batters, and walked two others.

Rockford and Philadelphia will finish its series on Sunday afternoon at 4:05 p.m EST. The winner of game five will take the first series of the season 3-2.
