Wichita Force News Release

WICHITA, Kan. - The Wichita Force (9-2) will cap the 2016 regular season this Saturday as the team will host the Omaha Beef (7-4) at INTRUST Bank Arena.

The two teams met at the Ralston Arena where the Beef handed the Force its second consecutive loss on the year. Both teams battled neck-and-neck throughout the game down to the wire with former QB Stephen Panasuk connecting to WR Brett Soft for a 37-yard pass with one second remaining but the Force fell by three points.

The Beef are coming into this week's contest on a winning-streak after succeeding the team's last three opponents. The team is currently tied with the Sioux City Bandits for the No. 2/No. 3 seed of post season play. If the Omaha is to win this week and the Bandits are to lose, the team will gain a home field advantage for the first round of the playoffs.

Last week, the Force sealed the No. 1 seed of the Northern Division with a 44-30 win over the Sioux City Bandits. The team has earned the first week bye of the post season tournament and will host the winner of the No. 2/No. 3 game that has yet to be determined.

Force Player to Watch: DB Dontra' Matthews

Debuting his professional career with the Salina Liberty and later picked up by the Force, Matthews has seen four games with the Wichita squad. He has quickly emerged as a visual leader on defense and has recorded two interceptions, both resulting in a touchdown, and 22 tackles.

With Matthews becoming more comfortable in his role in the defensive formation, he will be on guard for air patrol against the Beef's offense.

Beef Player to Watch: QB Brandon Steed

The rookie QB has started in four games for the Beef after losing Joshua Floyd Jr. Although his online stats reflect three games, he has completed 33-out-of-52 passes for 436 yards and ten touchdowns with only three interceptions.

Steed was originally signed with the Force for the preseason training camp before being released with selections of former QB Stephen Panasuk and Emmanuel Taylor. He was later picked up by the Beef to fill in the backup void.
