Philadelphia Force News Release

AKRON, OH - The Philadelphia Force (3-10) were able to win game one of a Saturday double header with Akron by the score of 8-4. The Racers (7-7) bounced back in game two to earn the split in the double header, winning by a score of 5-3.

Kristin Erb kept the Force in game one, by holding the Racers to one run in the first four innings. The Racers pitching staff did just as well, however, keeping the tally at 1-1 after four full innings.

Emily Friedman responded in the 5th, with a 2-RBI single, plating Lillian Hammond and Clare Burnum, to give the Force the lead on the afternoon.

Katie Cochran would respond for Akron, tying it up with her first career home run, over the center field fence. Miscues by the Racers, and a couple key hits, including an RBI double by Hammond would put the Force up for good in the 6th inning.

Megan Gibson added her second home run of the ball game in the 7th to put away the Racers. Gibsons line would read 3-3 with 2 home runs, a double, and 3 RBIs.

Stacy Birk was solid in relief for the Force, earning the victory, her first of the season. She threw 2.2 innings from the circle, striking out and walking one. Kate Robinson was handed the defeat for the Racers.

Gibson would follow up her offensive production in game one, by taking to the circle for game two. She was stellar through two innings, not allowing a hit until the 3rd inning, in which a single, sac bunt, and error by Burnum, would lead to a Racer run against Gibson.

Gibson would waste no time responding to the early Racer run. Lillian Hammond reached on a dropped third strike, Brette Reagan walked, and Gibson stepped to the plate, looking to do more damage. She would deliver with her third home run of the day, putting the Force up 3-1.

The Racers would not be done scoring, however, against the slugging ace of the Force. Kristen Butler's RBI double made the score 3-2. Lisa Modglin had an RBI single to give the Racers the tie, and an error plated the fourth runner of the game for Akron, making the score 4-3 in favor of the Racers. Cochran would add the final tally, driving in Jackie Pasquarella to give Akron a 5-3 lead.

Angela Tincher earned the victory for the Racers, going all seven innings for the home team. Gibson picked up the loss for the Force, largely in part to several Philadelphia defensive miscues.

The Racers host the Force for the series finale Sunday afternoon at 2:05 PM at Firestone Stadium.
