Force Aim to Extend Win Streak against Beef
April 2, 2015 - Champions Indoor Football (CIF)
Wichita Force News Release
WICHITA, Kan. - The Wichita Force (3-1) is set to host the Omaha Beef (0-4) at INTRUST Bank Arena on Friday, April 3, 2015; kick-off set for 7:05 p.m. The Force is currently riding a three game win streak going into Friday's game against the winless Beef. The previous matchup between Wichita and Omaha on March 6 brought the Force its first franchise win, a 45-42 triumph on the road sealed by a last defensive stand.
For the third straight game defense was the key to a Force victory, most recently coming on Saturday against the Bandits. Force linebacker Jason Catchings and defensive lineman Matt Moss combined for four tackles for loss and three sacks. Defensive backs Elbert Mack and Kendrick Harper contributed in the secondary, each snagging an interception. Quarterback Kyle Jech made his first appearance in front of the Force home crowd, completing 12 of 26 passes for 91 yards, with two passing touchdowns, two rushing touchdowns and three interceptions. With a successful goal line stand completed with 24 seconds left in the game, Wichita earned a 42-35 win over Sioux City.
Omaha travels to Wichita after a matchup with the Salina Bombers this past weekend. Salina attacked through the air as Bomber quarterback Chris Coffin pouring in 252 passing yards for five touchdowns, while adding one rushing touchdown. The Bombers raced out to a 19-0 lead, prompting the Beef to make a change at quarterback, inserting rookie Tyrell Haughton. In his first drive of the game, Haughton led the Beef on a four-play drive, capped off by a five yard touchdown run to cut the Bombers lead to 19-7. Salina then scored 30 unanswered points to hand Omaha a 49-7 defeat.
Beef Player to Watch: Jesse Robertson
Robertson leads the CIF with 8.5 tackles per game, ranks second with 34 total tackles, and third with six tackles for loss. In Wichita's previous game against Omaha, Robertson recorded 13 total tackles, two tackles for loss, and one pass break up.
Force Player to Watch: QB Kyle Jech
Coming off his first full game as a member of the Force, Jech will be facing a Beef defense that ranks last in the CIF in passing defense, allowing 220 passing yards per game. Jech completed just 12 of his 26 passes on Saturday night, but was often hurried by a Bandits defense that sacked him five times. The Beef, however, are seventh in the league with three total sacks this season and failed to record a single sack in their game against the Force earlier this season. Jech will be facing a defense that struggles to apply pressure, giving him plenty of time to find his targets and have a big game for the Force.
Kick off for Friday's game is set for 7:05 p.m. at INTRUST Bank Arena with the Buffalo Wild Wings pregame show beginning at 6:45 p.m. It's Orange Out Night presented by Promo Depot and Kansas Retirement Consultants featuring free t-shirts for the first 1,000 fans in the door, a silent auction for the special edition orange, game worn jerseys and following the game a post-game party is being hosted by Buffalo Wild Wings on North Rock Road. Fans are invited to eat and mingle with their favorite Force players and coaches. Starting at $10 in the Fan Zone section, single game tickets can be purchased at the INTRUST Bank Arena box office, over the phone by calling (855) 755-SEAT, at participating Dillons locations, or online at www.selectaseat.com .
