Michael Ambort hit a solo home run in the top of the eighth inning to break a scoreless tie, and that proved to be all the Richmond Flying Squirrels would need to beat the Harrisburg Senators, 1-0, Saturday night at Metro Bank Park. The game took place in front of 4720 fans.

All five pitchers that saw action in the game were outstanding, but David Mixon (3-1) of Richmond (18-11) ultimately earned the win. He allowed just one hit in seven innings, and faced only one over the minimum in that time. Yunior Novoa (0-3), who allowed the home run, took the loss, while Tony Pena, Jr. picked up his fourth save.

Starter Brad Meyers, making his first professional appearance in 2010 after beginning the year in extended spring training, pitched five innings, allowed four hits, and struck out nine Flying Squirrels. All in all, Senators pitchers recorded 16 strikeouts in nine innings.

The Senators (11-18) notched just one hit in the game, and it came in the first inning. Brad Coon, the second batter of the game, doubled off of Mixon, but then was thrown out trying to extend the play to a triple. After that, just two Senators reached base: Jesus Valdez on a walk in the fifth, and Danny Espinosa on a strikeout and wild pitch in the seventh.

The Flying Squirrels improved to 18-11 with the win, and can sweep the series Sunday afternoon at Metro Bank Park. The Senators will try to salvage a win in the series, and a second win in their ten-game homestand, with RHP Jeff Mandel (0-4, 4.21) on the mound. He will oppose left-hander Doug Clark (1-2, 4.63) of the Flying Squirrels. Radio coverage of the game will begin at 1:45 PM on 1460 AM The Ticket and www.senatorsbaseball.com.
