Flyers Win Series

Schaumburg Flyers News Release

Saturday, Stephen Yoo made his first career start as a catcher. Sunday afternoon, he sent the Flyers to their ninth win in the last ten games with a two-RBI single in the seventh. Yoo also knocked in the Flyers' first run with a groundout in the third. The win gives the Flyers their third consecutive series win.

The Flyers would have to play from behind as the T-Bones scored twice in the first without recording a hit. Flyers starter Carmen Pignatiello would buckle down, allowing just three hits and no runs over the next six innings to pick up his second win of the season. Cephas Howard bridged the eighth allowing just one hit and striking out two, and Craig James came on to secure his fourth save.

Yoo would have to come through defensively to help James get through the ninth. After James walked Jim Fasano to lead off the inning, Kansas City pinch-ran with Jeff Helps. Helps took off on the first pitch, and Yoo fired a strike to second to nail Helps, the first runner he's thrown out this year. That first out would prove to be a big one, as Brad Correll singled and Mark Minicozzi walked before James struck out Ryan Fox and Eric Scriven to end the game.

The Flyers managed just five hits against Kansas City's combination of starter Chris Rhoads, Peyton Tweddale, and Daniel Sattler, but managed eight walks. Peyton Tweddale was charged with the loss, his second of the series.

The Flyers will head to Joliet Monday night to make-up Opening Night's rainout. The first pitch is scheduled for 7:05, with starters TBD. Schaumburg will welcome the Jackhammers to Alexian Field for a three-game set starting Tuesday.
