Schaumburg Flyers News Release

GARY - The Flyers have now played sixteen games in as many days, and it's beginning to show. Gary jumped on Schaumburg early, and topped the Flyers 8-0 Saturday night at the U.S. Steel Yard. The Flyers were shut out for the second time in three days, and have now dropped four of five.

It didn't take long for the RailCats to get to Flyers starter Tom Lyons. After Mike Massaro flied out to left to start the first, the next four men in the Gary order touched the plate. Rob Marconi reached on an infield single and advanced to second when Jay Pecci followed with a walk. Steve Haake and Jordan Czarniecki then roped back-to-back doubled to make it 3-0 RailCats, and Mike Roadie singled home Czarniecki to complete the scoring in the first frame.

The rest of the Gary scoring came in the sixth off Flyers relieve Alain Quijano. Jeff Beachum got on with a one-out infield single and scored on Massaro's double. Pecci then doubled home Massaro, and Haake blasted a two-run shot to right field to make it 8-0 Gary. Haake finished a triple short of the cycle, scoring twice and driving in four.

Schaumburg managed just four hits, and only mustered two against Gary's starting pitcher, Onan Masaoka. Jose Valdez was the lone Flyer to record multiple hits, going 2-4 with a pair of singles.

Lyons (1-2) took the loss in his second spot start, and Masaoka recorded his first win of the season (1-4). The Flyers will finish their seventeen game stretch with a 2:00 game Sunday at the Steel Yard. RHP Ed Almonte throws for Schaumburg, and newly acquired RHP Grant Johnson opposes for Gary.
