Flyers sign O'Malley and Lofton

February 15, 2008 - Northern League (NL) - Schaumburg Flyers News Release

Schaumburg, IL - The Schaumburg Flyers Professional Baseball Club announced today that they have signed pitcher Ryan O'Malley and infielder James Lofton.

Left-handed pitcher Ryan O'Malley joins the Flyers from the Cubs minor league affiliates in Iowa (AAA) and Tennessee (AA). After being drafted by the Chicago Cubs in 2002, O'Malley made his Major League debut with the North Siders in 2006.

"Signing a pitcher with the experience of Ryan should translate into a lot of chances to win ballgames," says Flyers manager Steve Maddock. "He will provide a lot of leadership for our younger pitchers. This is a huge signing for the Flyers."

Shortstop James Lofton made his Major League debut with the Boston Red Sox in 2001. Drafted in 1993 by the Cincinnati Reds, Lofton is a seasoned veteran, joining the Flyers for his 15th minor league season.

The Schaumburg Flyers are a member of the Northern League, a 6-team Independent Professional Baseball League established in 1993. Opening Day is May 15th, 2008. For ticket information call (847) 891-BALL (2255) or visit www.flyersbaseball.com
