Flyers Power Their Way to Victory

Schaumburg, IL - The Flyers (10-21) won their second game in a row as they took down the JackHammers (14-16) 9-5 on Illini Night at Alexian Field.

The Flyers scored their nine runs on thirteen hits, seven of which came in the second and sixth innings.

In the second, Schaumburg plated its first two runs on a Joe Pauley double that hugged the third baseline all the way to left field. Chris Schultz and Terry Mermer came around to score on the hit. Later in the inning, Joey Gomes cleared the bases on a three run double to center, bringing in Tom Fitzgerald, Pauley and Travis Brown.

Gomes extended his league leading hit streak to 17 games with the second inning double.

The JackHammers answered back with runs in the fifth, sixth, and seventh to bring the game to a 5-5 tie in the top of the seventh.

The Flyers quickly returned the favor with three more runs in the bottom of the inning on run-scoring doubles by Mermer and Fitzgerald and Brandon Newton's RBI single up the middle.

Todd Moser (1-4) turned in a strong effort, tossing five innings while giving up just three earned runs. Brian McCullough, Reid Price, and Tom Lyons combined to allow just two runs in the last four innings.

Lyons (1-1) picked up the win for Schaumburg and Griffin Bailey (1-2) took the loss for Joliet.

The series wraps up as the Flyers go for their first sweep of the season at Alexian Field Wednesday night.
