Flyers name Bobby Bell hitting coach

SCHAUMBURG, IL- The Schaumburg Flyers have named veteran batting instructor Bobby Bell as their new Hitting Coach for the 2006 season. Bell joins the staff of Flyers Manager Andy McCauley after spending the past two years in the Northern League as the hitting coach at Joliet. "I like Andy. We have a really good relationship," said Bell from his home in Lafayette, IN. "He's going to give me a lot of daily responsibility and I'm all about hard work. There's some really good hitters on the roster that I've seen over the past few years and I can't wait to start working with these guys."

Bell will join McCauley and Chicago-area players Nelson Gord & John Hummel at the upcoming FlyersFest, set for Sunday, February 19 from 1:00-3:00 PM at the Eaglewood Resort & Spa in Itasca. Bell was a catcher in the California Angels farm system from 1984-88 and reached the Triple A level. Before returning to pro baseball with Joliet in 2004, he had been a business owner and hitting coach at various levels of amateur baseball in the Lafayette area.

McCauley, Bell and the rest of the Flyers staff will welcome the 2006 team to training camp in early May. The eighth season of Flyers Baseball is set to open on Thursday, May 18 when Schaumburg hosts Kansas City at 7:05 PM.
