Schaumburg Flyers News Release

The Schaumburg Flyers have partnered with Alexian Brothers Health System Foundation for a unique charity fundraiser that will have fans swinging for the fences and for a good cause. Before each game in 2009, the Flyers will hold the Alexian Brothers Home Run For Kids contest in which 10 fans will have the opportunity to come to the plate and try to hit one out of the ballpark. Each fan will get five "batting practice fastballs" pitched by the Flyers new pitching coach, Jim Miksis. If they are successful, the Flyers will donate $100.00 for each home run hit, with all the proceeds going toward building the new Alexian Brothers Children's Hospital. And just for participating, fans will receive a T-Shirt that says "I Went Yard at Alexian Field."

"We are very fortunate to have this community partnership with the Schaumburg Flyers. It is these types of partnerships that will allow us to better serve our community with a new Alexian Brothers Children's Hospital," said Melanie Furlan, Vice President, Advancement for the Alexian Brothers. "Also, what a great way to encourage kids to help other kids!" The cost to participate is $25.00. All entries must be reserved in advance.

The Flyers have a also announced a new program recognizing a local coach every week. The Flyers Coach of the Week will get to talk baseball and get coaching pointers on the field from Flyers manager Mike Busch. The Coach of the Week will also be recognized in front of the Alexian Field fans at every Sunday home game, and on the Flyers website. To nominate a coach or to sign up for the HR derby, contact Liz Hamilton at liz@flyersbaseball.com.
