Flyers Drop Their First Game of the Year

May 22, 2010 - Northern League (NL)
Schaumburg Flyers News Release

The second game of the season certainly didn't treat the Flyers as well as the first did. A 5-2 loss to Rockford at Road Ranger Stadium was how the night ended for Schaumburg. Once again it was pitching that dominated the game, but this time for the Riverhawks.

Rockford RHP Kyle Wright was nothing short of spectacular, tossing 6 innings of two run, three hit baseball. The hurler put on a control clinic, locating 61 of his 80 total pitches for strikes.

The lone highlight for Schaumburg came in the 4th inning when Joe Nowicki led off with a sharply hit single to right, followed by a Mike Mooney base knock up the middle. Chris Schultz laid down a perfect sacrifice bunt to advance the runners over to 2nd and 3rd. That's when Brandon Newton stepped in and lined a double into left field that scored Nowicki and Mooney to give the Flyers a 2-0 lead.

But the Riverhawks came back in the bottom half of the 4th with three runs to give Rockford all it needed on a crisp May night. LHP Todd Moser was only burned by Rockford in that inning and took the loss. The Brooklyn native gave up just those three runs and allowed three hits, walking two and striking out one.

On the other side of the ball, the Schaumburg hitters struggled and left six men on base throughout the night. Travis Brown had a particularly tough time, striking out four times. He's still looking for his first hit of the season.

First pitch tomorrow is scheduled for 6:05 CT at Road Ranger Stadium. Tune in to 1410 WRMN and www.flyersbaseball.com as Alex Perlman and Chris Lobosco call all the action.

Tickets are still available for Opening Night at Alexian Field! Come support the Flyers as they open up their home season on Tuesday, May 25th at 6:30 PM. It's 2 for Tuesdays, which means Miller and Pepsi products are just $2!
