TODAY'S GAME: Game two of a three-game series against the Tampa Tarpons (NYY) at George M. Steinbrenner Field (1-0)....Game five of a six-game road trip against the St. Lucie Mets (NYM) and the Tarpons (3-1)...Florida took two out of three against the Tarpons at Osceola County Stadium, May 4-6, and is 3-13 all-time against the New York Yankees Advaced-A affiliate...The Fire Frogs finished 0-6 at George M. Steinbrenner Field in 2017.
TODAY'S STARTING PITCHER: 20-year-old Joey Wentz starts the the middle game of the three-game series against the Tampa Tarpons on Friday night...The 6'5" lefty entered the 2018 season as the 10th-ranked prospect in the Atlanta Braves organization, according to MLB.com...The Shawnee Mission East High School product earned his first win of the season with six scoreless frames against Tampa on May 5...The southpaw gave up two hits, walked three and struck out fouron 87 pitches (56 strikes)...Friday will be Wentz's second career start against the Tarpons.
FIRE FROGS TAKE WILD ONE OVER TARPONS: The Florida Fire Frogs and Tampa Tarpons went back-and-forth through the early goings on Thursday night, but Florida's offense erupted late in the series-opening, 10-6 victory at George M. Steinbrenner Field.
Florida had a 3-0 lead heading into the bottom of the third, but Tampa countered with three runs in the home half of the frame to tie the game. The Fire Frogs pushed across a run in the fourth for their second lead, but the Tarpons put up three more runs in their half of the inning to put the visitors in a 6-4 hole. The away team plated three runs in the fifth for their third lead of the night, and pushed across three insurance runs in the seventh to create the final score.
FLEXING THE MUSCLES: Lucas Herbert provided three insurance runs with a three-run homer in the top of the seventh inning on Thursday...The product of San Clemente High School became the fourth player in team history to hit a home run in consecutive games...The catcher/DH had gone 75 at-bats before launching long balls in two of his last five plate appearances...The 21-year-old has also driven in five runs over the last two games for the Fire Frogs...All four runs driven in by Herbert on Thursday came with two outs.
GOING STREAKING!: Alejandro Salazar's two-hit performance in the series opener stretched the infielder's on-base streak to 13 games, tying a team high for the 2018 season...Over the streak, the 21-year-old is hitting a robust .404 (19-for-47), and has collect seven multi-hit games...The native of Maracaibo, Venezuela has boosted his batting average from .264 to .330 since the streak began on April 25.
Cristian Pache extended his on-base streak to 12 games with an infield single in the third frame on Thursday...The 19-year-old outfielder is batting .375 (18-for-48), raising his average from .291 to .310.
BULLDOG ON THE MOUND: Sean McLaughlin did his share to help the Fire Frogs pick up the win on Thursday, tossing three scoreless frames in relief of Tucker Davidson...The product of Georgia had just two men reach base during his outing with on hit and an error...The right-hander has allowed just one run over his last six appearances, covering 10 innings, helping to lower his ERA from 3.18 to 2.11 since April 23...The 23-year-old leads the Florida State League with 14 appearances in 2018.
