April 8, 2011 - North American Hockey League (NAHL)
Traverse City North Stars News Release
FLINT - A.J. White stuffed home a rebound from point-blank range on Friday at Perani Arena 16:08 into overtime, giving the Michigan Warriors a 3-2 win over Traverse City and a commanding 2-1 lead in the best-of-five NAHL North Division semifinal playoff series.
The North Stars let leads of 1-0 and 2-1 slip away in another down-to-the-wire nail-biter between two evenly-matched clubs. Game 2 also went into OT. Alexander Taulien (Crystal Lake, IL/Lansing Capitals U18) opened the scoring eight minutes into the affair, but Brad Chapman evened it up with a power play goal for the hosts less than three minutes later. Justin Scott (Detroit, MI/Fargo USHL) put Traverse City back on top again just :33 into the second frame, but a last-second goal to close the period set up a scoreless third stanza and sent the game into the sudden-death session.
Steve Bolton (Las Vegas, NV/Amarillo NAHL) made 49 saves according to official statistics, and the Stars were outshot 31-14 over the final 40 minutes of regulation. Travis White (Sterling Hts., MI/TC North Stars/Ferris State) and Alec Shields (Pittsburgh, PA/TC North Stars/Mercyhurst College) assisted on Scott's marker, while Taulien potted an unassisted tally.
The teams will face off at 7 p.m. on Saturday in an elimination contest at Perani. If a fifth and decisive contest is warranted, it'll be back in Traverse City on Monday, April 11.
