ABA Saint John Riptide

First Team ABA All-Star arrives in Manchester

November 8, 2007 - American Basketball Association (ABA)
Saint John Riptide News Release

The expansion ABA Manchester Millrats were feeling pretty good about their roster a few weeks ago. They had just beaten the defending ABA Champion Vermont Frost Heaves 97-92 after just one practice - albeit in a preseason game. However, their roster just improved dramatically with the arrival of 2007 First Team ABA All-Star Rob Sanders.

Sanders, a 6'7 230 lb forward who played opposite NBA forward Ryan Gomes at Providence College, averaged 21.8 points, 10.7 rebounds, 3.6 assists, 2.1 steals, and 1.5 blocks per game for the ABA's Cape Cod Frenzy last season.

He was a starter in the ABA All Star game last January in Halifax, Nova Scotia, where he finished runner up in the slam dunk contest, and added 21 points and 10 rebounds in the game. A unanimous First Team ABA All-Star selection, Sanders was also named the '12th Best Minor League Player in the Country' in March, by Probasketballnews.com, which included players from the ABA, CBA, and NBDL.

This summer, Sanders has enjoyed stints in Philippines, Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic. In the latter, Sanders dominated the LIDOBA, being among the league leaders in scoring, rebounding, and field goal percentage, and culminating in a championship for Los Metros.

"Rob Sanders is a tremendous addition to our team. His versatility and athleticism allows us to play him on the perimeter or on the inside," explained Millrats Head Coach Larry Lessett, "and the fact that he chose to come to Manchester is a tribute to our G.M. Ian McCarthy and the loyalty that exists between he and Rob."

Fans can see Rob Sanders in action this Sunday November 11, 2007 at 4:35 p.m., as the Manchester Millrats welcome the Boston Blizzard to the 'Fieldhouse' on the campus of Southern New Hampshire University in Manchester, NH. Single game, season and half season ticket plans are on sale now on www.manchestermillrats.com or by calling 1-866-9-GET TIX (1-866-943-8849).
