Fire Look To End Two Losing Skid As They Host Venom

Georgia Fire News Release
ROME, GA (April 30, 2014) - On Saturday at 7:30 PM, the Georgia Fire (1-2) of the Professional Indoor Football League (PIFL) will look to end their two game losing streak when they host the first- place Nashville Venom (3-0).
Seems like forever ago since the Fire we're last at home, in fact come Saturday it will have been 33 days since they kicked off their inaugural season by defeating the defending PIFL Champion Alabama Hammers 67-65. A lot has happened since then, but Georgia has mostly been on the losing end the action of which includes two straight loses to in-state divisional rival Columbus.
One of the bright spots has been the play of WR Johnny Lester, who besides becoming an ESPN highlight machine over the past couple of weeks has managed to grab multiple touchdowns in all three Fire games this season leading the club overall with seven total trips to the end-zone.
Last week the Fire dropped their second straight overall once again falling prey to Columbus this time losing 63-41. In those two consecutive losses Georgia turned the ball over six times combining to go 4 of 17 on 3rd down conversions. QB Cecil Lester missed the first meeting vs. the Lions but returned last weekend leading the Fire to a tied contest on different occasions in the 2nd half. Three late interceptions ended up being the final demise as the club scored just one touchdown in their final five drives of the game.
In a much needed return home the first-place Nashville Venom awaits the Fire who sat idle last weekend. Nashville has enjoyed two comfortable wins over Alabama as well as a nail-biting 4th Quarter comeback win over Harrisburg three weeks ago. Come Saturday this may be a different Venom club from their previous three games due to starting QB Alex Carder getting signed two weeks ago by the AFL's New Orleans Voodoo.
In his stead Nashville signed QB Lee Chapple who got his PIFL debut a season ago with the Columbus Lions. Chapple saw action in four games completing 50 of 103 passes for 732 yards and 12 touchdowns as well as eight interceptions.
Despite the loss of Carder, expect the Fire to spend majority of their preparation time this week preparing for the stingy Venom defense. Nashville is holding opponents to a PIFL low 33 points/game while opposing quarterbacks are completing just 46% of their passes. DB Corry Stewart is 2nd overall in the PIFL with four interceptions while teammate Scooter Rogers is right behind with three.
