FC Tucson Earns a Point against Richmond

Despite a season-high number of shots on the night, FC Tucson settled for a 0-0 draw with Richmond Kickers at Kino North Stadium.

WHAT TO KNOW

- Goalkeeper Carlos Merancio collected his first clean sheet of the season.

- FC Tucson recorded a season-high 21 shots on the night.

- FCT won the possession battle 50% to 49%.

FC Tucson controlled the tempo from the opening whistle, spending much of the time in the opponent's defensive half and generating seven first-half shots toward the target.

The best opportunity came in the 38th minute. Midfielder Andrew Wheeler-Omiunu nearly found the back of the net on a solid attempt from directly outside of the opponent's box. But Richmond goalkeeper Akira Fitzgerald made an impressive diving save to keep the match scoreless through the first 45 minutes.

In the second half, defender Kyle Venter earned two yellow cards to force FC Tucson to play down a man. for the majority of the second half. FC Tucson caught a break in the 84th minute when Richmond's Conor Shanosky received a red card for denying a clear goal-scoring opportunity. Then the Kickers' Wahab Ackwei received a second yellow to give FC Tucson a 10-9 advantage for the dying moments of the match.

But the club ultimately didn't find the back of the net.

Goalkeeper Carlos Merancio recorded his first clean of the 2019 season, collecting three key stops to keep the away side scoreless.

FC Tucson will have a quick turnaround as the home side welcomes Greenville Triumph SC to Kino North Stadium on Tuesday, September 24th.

Gates open at 6:00 p.m. and kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m.
