Fans and Community Choose "Charlotte" for New Major League Lacrosse Team

Charlotte, N.C. - April 11, 2011 - Stage #1 of the Name the Team Campaign, powered by OrthoCarolina is in the books and the fans & community have selected "Charlotte" over Carolina and Queen City as the geographic portion of the new Major League Lacrosse team name.
The Name the Team Campaign powered by OrthoCarolina continues with Stage #2 - Identify Brand Attributes, which runs thru 4/21. Team President, Jim Philliamy and Director of Sales & Marketing, Wade Leaphart posted a letter to the fans this morning regarding Stage #2 at http://www.facebook.com/note.php?note_id=146548378744419.
Stage #2 encourages the fans and community to explore and consider Charlotte's history, the sport of lacrosse and brand attributes before submitting a team name and color scheme on the team's facebook discussion board (http://www.facebook.com/topic.php?uid=146004058790105&topic=296). "We are very excited about the passion and participation of our fans and the community in this process. We really want to open the doors and find ways for fans to be a part of key team decisions. By being the 4th team in pro sports to let the fans name the team, we hope to instill a sense of ownership from the start," says Leaphart.

The new team name will be revealed on June 21 in an unveiling ceremony, open to the public.
