This season's game will employ an unprecedented and uniquely engaging format. A total pool of 36 players will be selected as WPS All-Stars, with 22 starting players chosen through voting by teams, players, media and fans, and the other 14 reserve players chosen by Coaches' and Commissioner's picks. The international player and domestic player receiving the most votes will be named captains of the all-star teams.
In Atlanta, the two captains together with the team coaches will select the Starting XI for each team from the pool of 22 starting players in an alternating "playground pick-em" style format during an event two days prior to the WPS All-Star Game. The two teams will each line up in a 3-4-3 formation.
The online fan balloting will comprise 25% of the total vote, with coaches (25%), players (25%) and media (25%) combining for the remaining 75% percent of the vote.
