Eyes Of Texas And Indoor Football Will Be Upon Frisco Saturday Night

FRISCO, Tex. (February 25, 2008) - Not only will the eyes of Texas be upon the Frisco Thunder Saturday night, but eyes from across the country will be focused on the Thunder's 2008 season opener against the San Angelo Stampede Express in the Deja Blue Arena inside the Dr Pepper StarCenter.

In additional to being the kickoff for the Intense Football League, the Stampede Express - Thunder game launches 2008 for the entire sport of indoor football. Three other leagues across the country begin play a week later.

Pressure? Nope. None at all. Not really.

"We're confident that Saturday's game is going to be a solid presentation,'' said Thunder owner Jake Reed, the former Minnesota Viking star wide receiver. "If there's any pressure, it what we're placing on ourselves to perform at the highest level possible.

"It's an honor to kick off the entire sport," Reed added. "We'll be worthy of it."

IFL commissioner Dan Blum and other league representatives will be in attendance.

The Deja Blue arena seats 3,780 for indoor football. Ticket sales have been steady leading up to the game, and all four birthday party areas have been sold out.

"This is a chance for Frisco and Collin County to showcase what a great sports area it is,'' Reed said. "All you have to do is come watch us play and have a good time."

EDS Credit Union - the Thunder's title sponsor - will raffle off a Nintendo Wii at halftime and present the first 1,000 fans with mouse pads.

On the field, the Thunder features a new head coach in Troy Esprit and starting quarterback in Wes Cooper, who has made consecutive Intense Bowl appearances the past two years. Several returnees are back from last year's inaugural season 8-6 team, including defensive stalwarts LaMont Finley and Courtney Brooks.

"It's game week, what more can you say?" Esprit asked. "We've put together a strong team and It's time to see what we got."

A playoff team its expansion season, the Thunder hosts the opening game of the 2008 Intense Football League season on Saturday, March 1st at 6 p.m. against the San Angelo Stampede Express. All home games will be played in the Deja Blue Arena, located in the Frisco Dr Pepper StarCenter. Season and individual tickets are available now at 972-731-6968.
