Express Powers Past New Orleans 10-0

METAIRIE, La. - Neil Ramirez tossed six shutout innings and the Express hit a season-high four home runs to defeat New Orleans 9-0 in Sunday afternoon's Pacific Coast League Action at Zephyr Field. It was the first shutout of the season for the Express (6-11) and the second time the Zephyrs (12-5) have been shutout this year.
The power for the Express began in the fourth inning. Leading 1-0, Matt Kata walked to begin the fourth. Joey Butler followed with a towering two-run home run to right to give Round Rock a 3-0 lead. Two innings later Yangervis Solarte hit his first home run of the season to make it 4-0.
In the top of the ninth, the Express exploded for six runs including two home runs. Solarte doubled to lead off the inning before Luis Martinez hit a two-run shot to center field. Julio Borbon and Luis Hernandez walked and with two outs, Michael Bianucci deposited a Beau Jones fastball into the seats in center to make it 9-0. Kata and Butler then added consecutive doubles to score once more before Jones, a former Express reliever, got Luis Martinez to strikeout to end the inning.
Neil Ramirez (2-1) threw six shutout innings to pick up the win for the Express. He allowed three hits and a walk and struck out six.
Brad Hand (2-1) earned the loss for the Zephyrs. He allowed four runs on six hits - two of which were home runs Â-Â-Â-Â- - and four walks and struck out four.
Solarte led the way for Round Rock with three hits, two runs and an RBI. He is hitting .714 over his last four games (10-of-14).
Bianucci, Butler and Martinez each had two-hit games with three RBI a piece. Kata had a pair of hits and scored three times.
Round Rock and New Orleans continue their four-game series Monday with a 7:05 p.m. CDT first pitch. Right-hander"Greg Reynolds (0-2, 3.79 ERA) is scheduled to start for the Express opposite Zephyrs left-hander Wade LeBlanc (1-0, 2.00 ERA).
