MASON CITY, IA - Scott Kozlak's goal at 2:26 of overtime was the difference Friday night as the Southern Minnesota Express defeated North Iowa 5-4 to extend their winning streak to five games. Kozlak took the pass from CJ Willms to bust down the right wing and score on a wrist shot from the faceoff circle. It was the second meeting in a row between the two teams that ended in an OT win for the Express. Willms, Kozlak, and Andy Inderieden each had a goal and an assist on the night for Southern Minnesota as their line combined for six points. Libor Gazdik and Jeff Carlson scored one each.

While there were some signs of rust from the Christmas break, for the most part the Express picked up where they left off. Southern Minnesota led 2-1 after the first period and by the 3:45 mark of the second held a 3-2 lead with Mike Wallgren and Bobby Moe recording the North Iowa goals. Then the Outlaws caught fire, tying the game on goals by Joe Harcharik and Nick Folmer. After a scoreless third period, the Express held off North Iowa's early pressure before Kozlak sealed the deal with his fourth goal and 7th point in eight games since joining the Express from Chicago of the USHL.

Southern Minnesota, now 19-14-1 on the season, returns home Saturday night to face the Alexandria Blizzard.Game time is 7:05 p.m.
