The Albany Empire (4-0) defeated the Columbus Destroyers (0-4) on Saturday night at the Nationwide Arena by a score of 56-40 in front of a crowd of 7,035 to remain unbeaten early in the 2019 season. The game was close all night, but the Empire went ahead in the second quarter and never looked back.

Empire quarterback, Tommy Grady, won game MVP honors for the fourth consecutive game, tallying 22 completions on 32 attempts for 320 yards and 7 touchdowns.
Grady found 4 different receivers on the night, all of whom scored for the Empire. Leading the way for the Albany receiving unit was Malachi Jones with 10 catches for 179 yards and 3 touchdowns. Receiver, DJ Stephens, added 5 catches for 63 yards and 1 touchdown. Stephens continued to be a factor on special teams for Albany, returning 5 kicks for 73 yards including a long of 25 yards. Quentin Sims caught another 2 touchdowns to go with his 4 receptions for 64 yards. Collin Taylor added 3 receptions for 14 yards and 1 touchdown in the victory.
Being named Defensive Player of the Game honors, rookie defensive back Tevin Homer tied for the team-high with 6 total tackles and had 1 interception on the night. Tying Homer in tackles was defensive back Arkeith Brown, with 6 of his own in the victory. Jack linebacker, Terence Moore, added 2.5 total tackles, 1 fumble recovery, and 1 quarterback hurry in the game. Defensive linemen, Joe Sykes and Rodney Fritz, assisted each other on a sack, marking 0.5 sacks each in the game. Defensive back, Terrance Smith, added 1 interception.
The next game for the Empire is the last of three consecutive road matchups, this time against the Atlantic City Blackjacks on Saturday, May 25 at 7:00 pm in the Jim Whelan Boardwalk Hall.
