Las Vegas, NV - The Las Vegas Gladiators, in partnership with News 3's "Operation: Football," awarded Andy Bacchetta of Eldorado High School the Gladiators' Ironman Award for the first week of the 2005 high school football season.

In the Sun Devil's loss on Friday night to Foothill, the senior receiver/DB had four receptions for 100 yards including an 83-yard touchdown catch. He also had a 75-yard kick return for a touchdown that would have put Eldorado right back in the game but it was called back due to a holding penalty. Bacchetta is a three-time varsity letterman in football as well as a member of the Eldorado track team that competed at the state championship.

Bacchetta also excels off the field well as he holds a 3.2 GPA.

This award recognizes student-athletes who have achieved both on the playing field and in the classroom. These achievements are reflective of the players in the AFL, where the majority of the athletes have skills as two-way performers.

Athletes are nominated for the award by their respective schools based on their weekly performance. Winners are recognized with a certificate presentation at their school with Gladiators' head coach Ron James and News 3 sports anchors Mitch Roberts or Rick Strasser. The presentation is featured on News 3 each week.

The Gladiators fourth season at the Thomas & Mack Center kicks off in 2006. Season tickets are on sale now and can be purchased by calling the Gladiators office at 702-731-4977 or logging onto www.lvgladiators.com.
