Somerset, N.J. (Tuesday, February 15, 2011) - Eight free agent players have been extended invitations by Sky Blue FC to participate in its upcoming preseason camp, which gets underway on Tuesday, March 1st. The group will look to earn a spot onto the active roster, hoping to join the team as it heads to Turkey from March 12-20th to participate in the International Women's Tournament of Champions in Antalya.

"As a coach, you always want to give an opportunity to players who may have been missed in the WPS Draft or who you would like to give a closer look," Sky Blue FC head coach Jim Gabarra stated. "Rather than having them go through the open tryout process, this is a really good opportunity to have them come into camp with all of the rostered players. They get the benefit of spending a few days with us during the preseason, and we can evaluate them from there to see if we may want to take them to Turkey. That would be the next step before roster determination is made."

The eight players who have been invited into preseason camp include goalkeeper Erin Guthrie (Rutgers), defenders Kika Toulouse (Virginia), Lindsey Johnson (Santa Clara), Kacey Richards (UConn), Kelly Lynch (Virginia Tech), Kristin Medeiros (SMU) and forward Kimberly Newsome (Central Florida). Between these eight players and participants who attend the upcoming tryouts on March 6-7th, Sky Blue FC hopes to finish compiling its roster for the 2011 season.

"Between the invites and tryouts, we are covering areas to fulfill roles in terms of our needs," assistant coach Rick Stainton remarked. "Throughout those two processes, we are very confident that we will find players to suit our team."

Any players who aspire to play for Sky Blue FC in 2011 are strongly encouraged to register for the open tryouts. Two training sessions will be conducted on each day of the trials, with the first running from 10:00-11:30 a.m. and second from 2:30-4:00 p.m. The following day, the time of the two sessions will be from 9:30-11:00 a.m. and 1:30-3:00 p.m. These times are subject to change, but registrants will be notified if that occurs.

Sky Blue FC will open its 2011 season on Sunday, April 10th, when it hosts the Philadelphia Independence at Yurcak Field on the campus of Rutgers University in Piscataway. The team currently has season tickets on sale for the upcoming season of play, with packages starting as low as $99. The team is also temporarily offering a flex ticket special which offers fans two free game vouchers with the purchase of a full set of 10. Flex plans give fans the flexibility of using their game vouchers however they please, all while receiving the same benefits of being a season ticket holder.
