Published on March 1, 2019 under Premier Hockey Federation (PHF) News Release

Eight current NWHL players were named to the U.S. National Team roster for the 2019 World Championships, USA Hockey announced on Friday morning.

Buffalo Beauts Emily Pfalzer, Hayley Scamurra and Dani Cameranesi, Minnesota Whitecaps Lee Stecklein, Hannah Brandt and Kendall Coyne Schofield and Metropolitan Riveters Michelle Picard and Amanda Kessel all earned call-ups.

The World Championships will be held in Espoo, Finland, from April 4-April 14. The United States will compete in Group A, along with Canada, Finland, Russia and Switzerland.

In addition to the eight current NWHL players selected, four 2018 NWHL Draft picks were also named to the roster: Annie Pankowski (Metropolitan Riveters), Megan Keller (Buffalo Beauts), Melissa Samoskevich (Connecticut Whale) and Kelly Pannek (Minnesota Whitecaps).

Pfalzer, Cameranesi, Stecklein, Brandt, Kessel and Coyne Schofield are among 14 players on the World Championships roster who helped Team USA capture gold at the 2018 PyeongChang Olympics. Scamurra, who has had a stellar NWHL season, saw her first game action with Team USA in February in the Rivalry Series against Canada. Picard has recently re-emerged onto the national team scene, also earning the call-up for the Rivalry Series.

The NWHL also congratulates former NWHLers Hilary Knight, Brianna Decker, Kacey Bellamy, Megan Bozek and Alex Carpenter on their selections.
