ECHL Players Help United States Win InLine World Title

PRINCETON, N.J. - Seven former ECHL players were on the roster for Team USA which captured the gold medal at the 2004 International Ice Hockey Federation InLine Hockey World Championships which concluded Saturday in Bad Tolz, Germany.

Team USA scored five unanswered goals in the first quarter to defeat defending champion Finland, 9-5, in the gold medal game on Saturday. It marks the fourth gold medal (1996, 1997, 1999 and 2004) and the seventh medal in eight world championships for the United States which won silver medals in 1998 and 2001 and bronze medals in 2000 and 2003.

In the gold medal game, defenseman Ernie Hartlieb, who played for Arkansas in 2001-03, led Team USA with six points (2g-4a) while Jason Deskins, who played for Dayton in 2003-04, had a goal and two assists and defenseman Chris Nelson, who played for three ECHL teams from 1993-95, had two goals and an assist.

Hartlieb led Team USA and ranked second in the tournament with 12 assists and 19 points in six games and was voted as the tournament's top defenseman. Deskins led Team USA and tied for fourth in the tournament with eight goals while ranking fourth in the tournament with 16 points (8g-8a) in six games.
