It was the Jersey Rockhoppers week to shine. The second place Rockhoppers (22-13-1) closed to within ten points of the first place Brooklyn Aces (26-6-3) by going 3-1 on the week. Jersey has posted an 8-2 record in their last ten games. The Danbury Mad Hatters (18-14-1) went 2-1 and are eight points behind Jersey. The Mad Hatters defeated Jersey and the Hudson Valley Bears (3-30-1).

EPHL Player of the Week

He scored seven goals last week, including a hat trick on February 13th, so Jersey Rockhoppers forward Matt Puntureri is the Eastern Professional Hockey League Player of the Week. In only ten games with the Rockhoppers, the twenty-three year old native of Wampum, Pennsylvania has scored fourteen goals and added six assists for twenty points. His hometown of Wampum (population 678) is best known for the horror film "Day of the Dead" and is the birthplace of former baseball all-star Rich Allen, who played with both the Phillies and White Sox. Matt began the season with Winston-Salem in the SPHL.

EPHL Goaltender of the Week

Once again earning his reputation as the "iron man" of the EPHL, Nick Niedert of Jersey is the Eastern Professional Hockey League Goaltender of the Week. Niedert appeared in all four Rockhoppers games last week (although he did share time with Rob Lemelin last Friday). In 209 minutes played last week, the Hudson, Iowa native stopped 129 of 141 shots for a 91.5% save percentage and was between the pipes for key wins over both Brooklyn & Danbury. Nick leads the EPHL in games appeared (29), minutes played (1640), and victories (16).

EPHL Notes

This Sunday (February 22nd), when the Brooklyn Aces host the Hudson Valley Bears, it will be "Skate with the Aces Day" at the Aviator Sports & Recreation Complex on Floyd Bennett Field. Following the game, fans can skate with their favorite Aces players. Children receive a free skate rental with their Aces game ticket stub and adults will receive skate rental for $3.00 with their Aces ticket stub....following a nine point week (four goals & five assists), Jersey Rockhoppers forward Chris Ferazzoli was rewarded with a recall to Cincinnati (ECHL). At the time of his call-up, Ferazzoli was tied for the lead in league scoring with Brooklyn's Kyle McCullough (65 points).....the Hudson Valley Bears Josh Coyle scored four goals on February 13th vs. Jersey.....Danbury's Drew Madeiros had an eight point week (five goals & three assists).
