November 4, 2008 - Eastern Professional Hockey League (EPHL) News Release


The Eastern Professional Hockey League heads into its first full week of action following a successful opening night on November 1st. The first two games of the EPHL season saw the road team post victories as the 2008-09 season got underway.

The Brooklyn Aces went into the Essex County Richard J. Codey Arena at South Mountain and defeated the Jersey Rockhoppers 6 -3 before 1423 first night fans. Brooklyn native James Brannigan tallied two goals and added an assist for the victorious Aces.

In Danbury, Connecticut, the visiting Hudson Valley Bears fell behind 3-0 before rallying to defeat the Danbury Mad Hatters 5-4 on opening night at the Danbury Arena. 1891 were in attendance to watch the hard hitting contest. Hudson Valley defenseman Eric Lind scored two goals and an assist for the Bears.

EPHL Player of the Week

Hudson Valley Bears defenseman Eric Lind has been chosen the Eastern Professional Hockey League Player of the Week. In last Saturday night's victory over Danbury, the 6'2", 195 lbs native of Stamford, Connecticut scored two goals and added an assist. Lind is a former draft choice of the Pittsburgh Penguins and is the Bears Team Captain. Eric played briefly last year for Kalamazoo (IHL) and Elmira and Mississippi (ECHL).

EPHL Goaltender of the Week

Eddie Neville of the Brooklyn Aces is the Eastern Professional Hockey League Goaltender of the Week. The rookie netminder stopped 36 of 39 shots on Saturday night as the Aces defeated the Jersey Rockhoppers. Neville, from Ozone Park, New York, is in his first professional season, after playing college hockey last year at Bowling Green State University. Neville also played junior hockey in the USHL in Omaha and in Green Bay.

EPHL Notes

Danbury Mad Hatter Duane Whitehead leads all scorers with four points (1goal & 3 assists)....Hudson Valley goaltender Kelly Holowaty faced 48 shots last Saturday; stopping 44.....Hudson Valley plays three road games before their home opener on Saturday, November 15th when they host the Jersey Rockhoppers at the Ice Time Sports Complex in Newburgh, New York.
