The EPHL regular season ends on Sunday, March 22nd. Between now and then, it appears that the battle for second place in the regular season (and the second playoff position in the EPHL playoffs) will come down to either the Jersey Rockhoppers (25-15-2) or the Danbury Mad Hatters (23-16-1). The EPHL Championship Series will be a best-of-three series with all three games taking place at Aviator Sports & Recreation, located at Floyd Bennett Field, in Brooklyn, New York (due to arena availability). The dates for the championship series are Thursday, March 26th, Friday, March 27th, and Saturday, March 28th (if necessary).

Wednesday night in Danbury, the Mad Hatters closed to within five points of the second place Rockhoppers by defeating Jersey 3-2.

Last Week in Review

The Brooklyn Aces (30-7-3) continued their terrific regular season run by going 2-0 with home & home wins against Hudson Valley (3-36-1). Danbury posted a 2-1 week while Jersey went 1-1.

The EPHL Week Ahead

Wednesday 3/4: Jersey @ Danbury (7:00pm): Danbury defeated Jersey 3-2 in regulation.

Friday 3/6: Brooklyn @ Danbury (7:30pm): 15th game of season series. Brooklyn leads 9-5.

Saturday 3/7: Brooklyn @ Jersey (7:30pm)

Saturday 3/7: Danbury @ Hudson Valley (7:30pm / Poughkeepsie): Game postponed due to scheduling conflict. Re-scheduled date TBA.

Sunday 3/8: Danbury @ Jersey (5:30pm)

Sunday: 3/8: Brooklyn @ Hudson Valley (6:00pm / Newburgh)

EPHL Player of the Week

The Danbury Mad Hatters Erik Kent & Obi Aduba have been named Co-Eastern Professional Hockey League Players of the Week. Both players played key rolls in two victories last week. Erik Kent, from Newburyport, Massachusetts, posted an eight point week, including four goals against the Jersey Rockhoppers on February 24th. Kent also scored the game winning goal in that contest. Walpole, Massachusetts native Obi Aduba also had an eight point week (five goals & three assists). Aduba scored a hat trick and had the game winner against Hudson Valley on February 27th.

EPHL Goaltender of the Week

Brooklyn Aces goaltenders Eddie Neville & Miroslav Recicar are the Eastern Professional Hockey League Goaltenders of the Week. Both goaltenders saw action last week in two victories over the Hudson Valley Bears. In 120 minutes of play, they combined to stop 45 of 48 shots as the Aces continued to drive towards the EPHL regular season title. Eddie Neville, from Kresgeville, PA leads all EPHL goaltenders with a 2.99 goals against average and a 91.4% save percentage while posting a record of 16-4-2. Miroslav Recicar is second among EPHL twine tenders with a 3.29 goals against average and an 89.3% save percentage. The Brooklyn, New York native has a record of 14-3-1.

EPHL Notes

Friday night in Danbury, the Danbury Mad Hatters will honor the first professional team to call Danbury home, the Danbury Trashers, who played in the United Hockey League from 2004 to 2006. On "Trashers" night, a UHL Eastern Division Championship banner will be hung to honor the team's achievement.....Per EPHL regulations, Danbury Head Coach David MacIsaac has been fined an undisclosed amount of money for criticism of league officials. Mr. MacIsaac made statements in Thursday's Danbury News-Times that were considered to have a negative affect upon the EPHL and the game of hockey.
