Amarillo Venom News Release
The Amarillo Dusters today announced the assignment from the af2 league office of two former Lone Star Conference stars. Northeastern State (OK) receiver Josh Richey and Eastern New Mexico defensive lineman Brandon Wickware will be joining the Dusters in March for training camp.
"These are two outstanding players that we are expecting big things from," said Dusters General Manager Warren McCarty. "Richey made big play after big play in college. His yards per catch tell the story. He's also 6'3 and can get up for the ball. Wickware put up great pass rushing numbers, but did it mostly as an interior defensive lineman. That says a lot about his motor and aggressiveness."
Josh Richey (6'3, 190) was a three-year starter at receiver for the Redmen from 2002-2004. He put up impressive numbers, racking up 96 catches for 1695 yards (17.6 yards per catch) and 16 touchdowns.
"I found Josh at the Dallas Desparados tryout camp earlier this fall," said Dusters Head Coach Steve Perdue. "Over 500 players were there, and he really stood out. He's a sharp guy and I really think he's got a bright future in arena football."
Brandon Wickware (6'3, 290) is a native of Floydada, TX and was a three-year starter on the defensive line for the Greyhounds from 2002-2004. He earned All-Conference Honors in 2003 and in 2004. He was a force up front with 89 total tackles, 18 tackles for loss, 7 sacks, 1 pass break-up, and 2 fumbles recovered during his career as a Greyhound.
"Brandon came to us with great stats and great recommendations," said Perdue. "He's a Texas Panhandle guy, and he is hungry. Just as important is the fact that he's a good person, and he wants to be an impact player for us on and off the field."
