Amarillo Venom News Release
The Amarillo Dusters announced today that they have re-signed Head Coach Steve Perdue for the 2006 season.
"Coach Perdue brings a fire and a passion for arena football that is hard to find," said Dusters General Manager Warren McCarty. "He faced so much adversity last season, and fought through so much unnecessary criticism, he proved that he is the leader for our football team. We won a playoff game on the road, when nothing was going in our favor. We had more players on long-term injured reserve than any other team in af2, yet he instilled enough discipline in our ever-changing lineup that we finished as the least-penalized team in the league. He is a student of the game, and a teacher for our players. Our goal is to win the ArenaCup in 2006, and he is the man to take us there."
The Dusters finished 8-8 in the regular season, and defeated arch-rival Oklahoma City on the road in the first round of the playoffs. The Dusters became one of the only expansion teams in af2 history to win a playoff game.
"I would like to thank our owners, Bob and Barbara Rogers, Danny Kendrick, Jayson Grimsley, and Tracy Bunker for believing in me and giving me the opportunity to lead this team," said Perdue. "It's been great to be in a partnership with Warren McCarty. It's rare to have an opportunity in the sports world to work side by side with your best friend. It's been a dream come true being able to lead this team right here in my home town. Football is king in West Texas, and our fans give us a tremendous home field advantage. They are passionate about our team, and I am focused on instilling that same passion in our players and bringing another championship to Amarillo."
