Amarillo Venom News Release

Amarillo, TX 2/6/09 - Most football coaches will admit that the first step to building a winner begins with assembling a solid offensive and defensive line.

On Friday, the Amarillo Dusters took a big step towards a sound line by announcing their signing of 6'7", 360-pound Brandon Hurd and 6'5", 320-pound Lee Tibbs for 2009.

Hurd saw playing time with the Fort Wayne Freedom of the CIFL last season, starting at tackle for the professional indoor football team. The Fort Worth, Texas native played in the collegiate ranks at Kilgore College before attending North Texas University.

Tibbs, meanwhile, saw playing time as a senior at Iowa State University during the 2007 season. The native of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma played primarily at guard for the Cyclones, battling for playing time with Tom Schmeling.

As a junior college standout, Tibbs played for Northeastern Oklahoma A & M during 2004 and 2005. His sophomore season with the Vikings saw Tibbs collect first-team All-Conference honors before moving on to Big 12 football.

Tibbs and Hurd become the fifth and sixth players signed by Head Coach Ben Bennett and the Amarillo Dusters for 2009. More player signings are expected over the next two weeks, as the team readies for training camp in early March.

THE AMARILLO DUSTERS are a member of the arenafootball2 league. The team front office is now located at 901 S. Buchanan in downtown Amarillo. Season ticket packages for 2009 are available by calling (806) 350-PASS (7277), and start at just $96 a seat.
