Amarillo Venom News Release

Amarillo, TX 7/17/09 - Your Amarillo Dusters have fought hard all season, and look to give the

Amarillo fans their third victory on the year this Saturday night, as they host the Stockton Lightning at 7 PM in the Amarillo Civic Center.

Amarillo (2-12), will seek their first victory this season versus a non-Texas af2 team. The offense will have quarterback Julian Reese behind center, where Reese has dazzled at home since coming to the Dusters June 6th. In three home games, Reese has averaged over eight touchdowns per game (19 passing and 6 rushing). West Texas A&M alum and wide receiver Carl Johnson will be in the lineup. In his first game as a Duster (June 27th ), Johnson caught two balls, both for touchdowns.

Stockton (5-9), clinched their first playoff spot in team history last week with a 57-31 win over Central Valley. The Lightning currently sit in the final playoff spot in the National Conference. Rookie quarterback Chad Cavendar has played solid throughout the season, earning 56 touchdowns while averaging over 237 yards passing in each of his 12 games. Despite the impressive numbers, Cavendar has thrown the second-most interceptions this season by an af2 quarterback with 18.

What to watch for: The Amarillo wide receivers versus Stockton defensive backs. The Dusters will be without wide receiver Xavier Hair, but will have Carl Johnson, DuVaughn Flagler, and the ever-dangerous Alex Watson. Watson ranks fourth in the af2 in yards per catch (15.3). Stockton's pass defense is ranked 21st out of 25 af2 clubs.

This Saturday, July 18th at 7pm is your final chance to see your Dusters in person this season. Dollar menu night will be in effect, as all fans are welcome to dollar hot dogs, popcorn, and soda. To purchase show tickets starting at $10 each, call 806.350.PASS.
