Amarillo Venom News Release
Amarillo, TX 7/3/09 - The Amarillo Dusters continue their quest for a spot in the 2009 playoffs, as they bus to the "Pelican State" to take on the Bossier-Shreveport Battle Wings for the second time this season Saturday evening at 5:05 PM in the CenturyTel Center.
Amarillo (2-11), will bring the sour taste of defeat in their mouths from the last meeting between the two squads, as the first meeting three weeks ago ended in a two-point overtime loss. In the first game versus the Battle Wings and second game in a Dusters uniform this season, quarterback Julian Reese was involved in all 11 Amarillo scores. Wide receiver DuVaughn Flagler broke out as well with 10 receptions for 175 yards and 5 touchdowns. Last week, Flagler earned 13 catches for 147 yards and a touchdown.
The Bossier-Shreveport Battle Wings (7-5), who are holding on to second place in the Southwest division, have won five of their last six games, including a win over the Dusters back on June 13th. The fifth-ranked offense in the af2 is led by quarterback Andrico Hines, who ranks ninth in the league in passing yards per completion (12.4). Bossier-Shreveport's offense will try and keep their scoring streak going, as they have averaged over 72 points over their last 3 games. The Battle Wings are the least penalized team in the af2 and hold a 5-1 record versus Texas teams this season.
What to watch for: Amarillo's offensive line versus the Bossier-Shreveport defensive front. The Battle Wings have earned 6 sacks over their last two games, while the Dusters o-line has kept quarterback Julian Reese off the turf, allowing only 2 sacks in their last two games.
