Amarillo Venom News Release

Amarillo, TX 2/20/09 - New Dusters Head Coach Ben Bennett wasted no time in getting to work, after arriving back in Amarillo Tuesday.

Bennett inked five new players for 2009-three linemen and two defensive backs. Re-signed from the 2008 Dusters squad are offensive lineman Aaron Turner and offensive/defensive lineman Frinser Nelson. New to the Dusters this season will be lineman Rannoris Ray and defensive backs Myron Newberry and Marquell Winn.

Turner, who played college ball at East Central Oklahoma, played primarily at offensive line last season. The 6'6", 320-pound second-year pro played sparingly at tight end as well, catching five passes for 41 yards.

Nelson, meanwhile, played in eight games for Amarillo last season, registering 2.0 sacks and 10.5 tackles. The third-year pro out of Central Florida will return to anchor a defensive line that will likely average over 300 pounds per player in 2009.

Newberry and Winn, both rookies, will find Amarillo home for their first season in the af2. Newberry led the University of Hawaii in 2007 with four interceptions and ten pass breakups. He was also fifth on the team in tackles that season, with 53. Winn played at Alabama State, a Division 1 FCS school.

Ray, a former TCU Horned Frog, garnered Conference USA All-Freshman honors in 2002. He will begin his third professional season in a Dusters uniform, after spending 2008 with the Lubbock Renegades. Ray collected 6.0 tackles-for-loss in 2008, while ranking in the top ten on the team in tackles.

The Dusters recently announced the scheduling of a pre-season game against the Oklahoma City Yard Dawgs, to be played March 16 at the Amarillo Civic Center. General admission tickets are just $5, in honor of the Dusters' fifth anniversary season of play in the af2. Call (806) 350-PASS (7277) for details.

THE AMARILLO DUSTERS are a member of the arenafootball2 league. The team front office is now located at 901 S. Buchanan in downtown Amarillo. Season ticket packages for 2009 are available by calling (806) 350-PASS (7277), and start at just $96 a seat.
