Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees News Release

HIDALGO, TX: September 22, 2004 – The Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees of the Central Hockey League re-signed another member from last season's playoff roster with the acquisition of goaltender Terry Dunbar for the 2004/2005 season.

"Terry was impressive in practices with our squad last season," said Killer Bees Head Coach/Director of Hockey Operations Tracy Egeland. "He will be presented with a lot of ice time during training camp and will be given an opportunity to join our squad."

Dunbar joined the Killer Bees last season's playoff roster after closing out a college career, but did not see any action. The 6'2" 200 pound native of Duluth, Minnesota closed out his college career last season at Marian College (NCAA Div. III), which is the same program that produced Bees rookie Dan Odegard. Ironically, Odegard was the 02/03 Midwest Collegiate Hockey Association (MCHA) Player of the Year and Dunbar was named the 03/04 MCHA Player of the Year after going 16-10-0 with a 2.20 GAA, a 91.1% save percentage and 2 shutouts. He went 13-2-0 in conference play with a 1.63 GAA and a 92.5% save percentage. Dunbar left the program holding career records in games played (91), minutes played (5299), wins (49), saves (2156) and owns many single-season goaltending school records. He owns several MCHA honors, including multiple MCHA Goalie of the Week awards, two MCHA First Team All-Conference selections (03/04, 01/02) and MCHA Second Team All-Conference (00/01) honors.

Prior to Marian, The 24 year-old Dunbar played junior hockey during the 99/00 season with the America West Hockey League's (AWHL) Bismarck Bobcats and Billings Bulls, combining for a 4-2-2 record and a 4.74 GAA in 11 games. Dunbar's addition to the training camp roster means the Bees will have the same goaltending trio (Dunbar, Jeff Levy, Jacque Vezina) as they had at the close of last season. Dunbar is familiar with his goaltending colleagues from having them as teammates last season and from previous encounters as opponents. Vezina and Dunbar went head-to-head against each other as Marian College and University of Wisconsin - River Falls opened up the 00/01 and 01/02 seasons playing against each other.

The signing of Dunbar gives the Bees 19 players on the current roster. He joins goaltenders Jeff Levy and Jacque Vezina; defensemen Derek Holland, Sean Gillam, Josh Mizerek, Darcy Smith, Matt Suderman, Jason Tessier; and forwards Anthony Donskov, Matt Donskov, Blaz Emersic, Jason Hawes, Matic Kralj, Troy Linna, Rae Metz, Bill Newson, Bob Rangus and Ryan Shmyr. With less than 128 games played as a professional, Dunbar qualifies as a "developmental player," giving the Killer Bees nine signed by the squad (joins Anthony Donskov, Matt Donskov, Jason Hawes, Matic Kralj, Rae Metz, Bob Rangus, Matt Suderman, and Jacque Vezina). CHL rules require each team to have at least five players on their squad who have participated in 128 or fewer professional games, and those players are classified as "developmental players."
