Drones Use Big Inning to Down Paints, 5-1

CHILLICOTHE, Ohio - After the teams traded runs in the first inning, the DuPage Drones (5-6) used a four-run third to beat the Chillicothe Paints (3-9), presented by Adena Health System, Thursday night at VA Memorial Stadium.

Matt Elliott led off the game with a triple and scored one batter later on a Logan Geha RBI groundout to give the Drones an early 1-0 lead.

The Paints answered in the bottom of the first. Stewart Nelson singled to start the inning and scored later in the inning on a Dalton Bollinger RBI single to tie the game at a run each after one inning.

DuPage then used four hits, two Paints errors, and a wild pitch to score four runs, two earned, in the third inning to cap the scoring and take a 5-1 lead.

Chillicothe could only get three baserunners the rest of the game.

Brent Mattson (1-0) started for DuPage and allowed just one unearned run on six hits. The Canton, Mich., native walked one and struck out five.

Nicholas Benedetto threw the final three innings for the Drones to earn his first save of the season.

Chillicothe's Derek Moore (0-2) started and allowed five runs, three earned, on seven hits. The Wheelersburg, Ohio, native struck out eight and walked none.

The Paints wrap up their homestand Friday night against the West Virginia Miners at 7:05 p.m. at VA Memorial Stadium. It'll be "Cool Treats Night", the first 500 fans will receive a cool treat, courtesy of Dairy Queen.
