Drone Named Week 11 National Guard Community MVP

May 18, 2012 - Arena Football League (AFL) News Release

CHICAGO - Chicago Rush QB LUKE DRONE has been named National Guard Community MVP of the Week for his recent philanthropic efforts.

Drone (6-2, 220, Illinois State) is in his second AFL season and his first with the Rush.

Drone and his teammates had the opportunity to go to Children's Memorial Hospital in Chicago, IL. to visit patients.

"We did a game show at the hospital that runs live on all of the TVs in each hospital room," Drone said. "As soon as the show was over, we gave prizes to children in their rooms, visited with them, offered encouragement and tried to make them laugh."

While walking through the hospital, a mother stopped Drone and his teammates and asked if they would visit with her four-month old son who was battling brain cancer.

"We had the opportunity to visit with him and had a chance to pray for him," Drone said. "I thought that was really special."

Drone met with another young patient, a boy who loved football.

"I told him that when I get my first start, I would give him the ball from my first touchdown pass. He thought that was really cool," Drone said.

In Week 10, Drone was named the starting quarterback against the Rattlers. He plans to send that game ball over to the boy this week.

"I know how privileged I am, so any chance I get to give back, I try and do that," Drone said.

The Rush (6-3) have a bye this week but will travel to San Jose in Week 12 to face the SaberCats.

The National Guard Community MVP is awarded to one player each week in recognition of their commitment to community service. Following the 2012 season, players will be voted on by fans to become the National Guard Community MVP of the Year.
