Philadelphia Force News Release

Philadelphia - Drexel Field will play host to a softball showdown between an All-Star team comprised of representatives from five of Philadelphia's NCAA Div. I schools and the Philadelphia Force on Friday, May 29. The All-Star Showcase, which is the first of its kind, will feature the top softball players in Philadelphia taking on the city's professional team. A softball skills clinic for players ages 6-to-18 will follow the exhibition game. Opening pitch for the contest is set for 5:00 p.m. at Drexel Field on 43rd and Powelton Ave. in West Philadelphia. Tickets are $15 for the game and $25 for those attending the game and the clinic.

Softball players in attendance will have the opportunity to meet and work with top-notch collegiate players and professionals at the highest level of the sport. The clinic staff will include the City 6 All-Stars, members of the Force and coaches from the Philadelphia schools including Drexel, La Salle, St. Joe's, Temple, Penn and the University of the Sciences.

The Philadelphia Force finished second in the National Pro Fastpitch League last season with a 31-17 record and advanced to the semifinals of the NPF Championship. The team was led by the bat of Kellie Wilkerson, who hit .407 with four homers and 22 RBIs, and the arm of ace pitcher Katie Burkhart, who posted a 13-5 record with a 1.87 ERA on the season. Burkhart, Wilkerson, Sharonda McDonald, Chelsea Spencer and Emily Friedman all represented the Force as NPF All-Stars last season. The Force bolstered its roster in the off-season by signing All-Star pitcher Jessica Salinger from Chicago and trading for All-Star catcher Savannah Brown, reuniting the two All-America battery mates from Georgia Tech.
