Down by 24 at Half, Power Completes Historic Improbable Comeback
April 14, 2012 - Arena Football League (AFL)
Pittsburgh Power News Release
After trailing by 24 points at halftime, the Pittsburgh Power surged and overcame the largest deficit in Arena Football League history to beat the Orland Predators 54-Ã-"Â57 in overtime in front of 4,464 at the CONSOL Energy Center. Early in the game, Predator QB Justin Roper and WR Bobby Sippio had their way with the Power secondary, hooking up three times for touchdowns, including a 16-Ã-"Âyarder touchdown to give Orlando a 41-Ã-"Â17 lead going into the half. Thing looked grim for the Power as they repeatedly turned the ball over on downs. When QB Andrico Hines was injured being sacked and his reliever, recently signed Derek Cassidy, gave up a quick interception, Power fans had little reason for optimism. In the second half, the Power defense looked inspired and intent on changing the flow of the game. Pittsburgh held Orlando to just one touchdown for the remainder of the evening. Combining pressure upfront and tight man to man in the secondary, a frustrated Roper was intercepted LaRico Stevenson and by Chris LeFlore "" twice. Cassidy settled in and threw five touchdown passes, including a jump ball heave to Randy Hymes to tie the ball game up with 37 seconds left to play. Starting on defense in overtime, the Power held the Predators to a field goal. After a P.J. Berry kickoff return to the 20-Ã-"Âyard line gave the Power great field position, Cassidy found Christian Wise along the pads on the left side on the end-Ã-"Âzone score to give Pittsburgh the improbable comeback win. The Power improve to 2-Ã-"Â3 on the season and hope to keep the momentum rolling next week as they travel to New Orleans of face the VooDoo before returning home on April 28th to face the Cleveland Gladiators.
