Bellingham Slam News Release

BELLINGHAM, Wash. - The Bellingham Slam scored their highest point total in nearly three years as they easily dispatched the Oregon Waves, 151-112, in International Basketball League play at Whatcom Pavilion on Friday.

The 151 points scored were the most since the Slam put up 155 in a win against the Tacoma Jazz on June 21, 2008.

Bellingham enjoyed perhaps their hottest start in franchise history, as they sprinted out to a 29-4 lead just seven minutes into the game. By the end of the first quarter, the Slam had already scored 43 points to Oregon's 23.

The Waves tried to make things somewhat interesting in the middle stages of the second quarter, as they narrowed the gap to 11, at 47-36, thanks to an 8-2 run. At halftime, the Slam led 69-53, thanks to perfect 9-for-9 shooting in the half by Ryan Diggs, who had 25 points and finished with 30.

It was all Bellingham in the second half, as they led by 32 at the end of the third quarter, at 106-74, and stretched their lead as far as 43 points in the closing stages of the fourth.

Diggs' 30 points were a season high for him, while Derrick Webb stayed hot and surpassed his career high set last week by scoring 25 points.

Quentin Patin led an undermanned Oregon lineup with 27 points.

The Slam head to Edmonton for a three-game set next weekend, before returning home for a game at Whatcom Pavilion on May 27 against the Vancouver Volcanoes. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
